Wave City Bay brings the sounds he grew up with into ‘Stargazer ’97’, taking a little ’90s and early-2000s nostalgia onto the dancefloor. Bouncy drums and a rolling bassline sit underneath M1 house organs, rave stabs and chopped-up vocal hooks, with a warm synth line giving the whole thing a brighter, playful lift.
The UK producer has already released on Deevu Records, Jess Bays’ Superstore Records, Vivifier Records and 63B Records, while his remix of Aswad’s ‘Shine’ picked up support from Tough Love and Crystal Waters.
A lot of ‘Stargazer ’97’ goes back to hours spent playing PlayStation and Sega Dreamcast, where house, garage, jungle, hip-hop and electronic music could all happily sit side by side. Rather than trying to recreate that era, Wave City Bay has brought that same sense of colour and escapism into what he makes now. The result is part club track, part racing-game soundtrack, with a little piece of his childhood running through it.
